Here's an overview of how membership may benefit you.
National versus chapter membership:
Membership in national or membership in a chapter (such as Mount Diablo) are two separate things.
ASTD National's services operate on a macro level; for example, gathering best practices from large organizations around the world and distilling them down for reference.
ASTD chapters work on a grassroots level, catering to the needs and interests of the professionals in their area. This means every chapter has its own character and focus. The Mount Diablo chapter is well-known for its welcoming character and focus on facilitating professional development for members with any level of experience.
Many people find membership in both National and the Mount Diablo chapter extremely valuable. National's services and reach provides breadth, while our chapter services provide depth and a local community of practice.
Overview of Mount Diablo chapter membership benefits:
Discounts for Bay Area chapters' programs:
Full access to many services reserved for Mount Diablo members only, including:
If you're new to the field:
You can be assured of advice, tips and support for landing your first "official" training or organization development position.
If you're an advanced practitioner:
About half of our membership are advanced practitioners. You'll be welcomed into this circle of expertise so you can continue to develop your skills and knowledge, get support from your peers--or simply enjoy swapping a story or two.
You may also enjoy being a mentor to others or the opportunity to contribute your expertise to our community.
If you're an internal practitioner:
Professional development is important for all of us. So is networking, especially in light of the frequent need to get help finding and landing your next position. But let's face it, you don't want to be set-upon by every potential vendor in the chapter!
We couldn't agree more. You'll find that our chapter members respect your privacy and will support you as colleague, not treat you like a prospect.
If you're self-employed:
Many of our members are self-employed. They fully understand the unique challenges and will be delighted to offer their support. You'll also find that active chapter involvement pays in referrals for new business.
If training is only part of your job:
Approximately 90% of training takes place informally on the job! Joining the chapter ensures easy access to the help you may need to make this part of your job all the more successful.
If you're thinking about becoming a trainer or organization development professional, or attending school:
If you're exploring the field we encourage you to attend a couple programs rather than jump right in and join. We're always happy to offer input and advice, whether you are a member or not.
We do offer a discounted student membership! Just be sure to provide the name of the school you're attending in the Notes portion of the form.
